Dentistry finally comes into the 21st century with the advent of the laser dental drill. Dr. Seth Pomerantz of South Florida Laser Dentistry was the first to use the dental laser in Broward County. Using the dental laser, the need for anesthesia is greatly reduced, and in many cases no anesthesia is needed.
According to Dr. Pomerantz, “Dental visits are quicker. We don’t have to wait for a patient to get numb. The laser cuts with pinpoint accuracy, so we can be more conservative. It sterilizes as it cuts, and leaves a better bond for the restorations we place in the tooth.”
The dental laser may also be used to seal tubules that are responsible for hot and cold tooth sensitivity. Low intensity dental lasers can reduce the pain associated with cold sores and ca can minimize healing time. Laser dentistry is state-of-the art and is currently practiced by less than 6% of dentists.
Dr. Pomerantz also announces the availability of a new device designed to help snoring and sleep apnea sufferers. The device keeps the throat from closing up, thereby preventing snoring and sleep apnea.
“The oral orthotic prevents the jaw from falling backwards while we sleep. When the jaw falls backwards while we sleep, it causes a collapse of the musculature and prevents air flow. The oral appliance prevents the closure of the airway,” added Dr. Pomerantz.
Dr. Pomerantz and his laser dentistry and sleep apnea appliance were recently featured on television on Spotlight TV News, Best of South Florida with Tony Segreto.
